It has been suggested that the C. Davenport to whom this volume belonged was Charles Davenport of Taunton, Massachusetts, although that name does not appear in city directories of the time period covered by this volume. More likely, the volume was kept by Cornelius Davenport of New Bedford, who sold hats, caps, furs, umbrellas, gloves, cravets, etc., at 138 Union. He seems to have been a Quaker.
